Have you been searching for help and running into a wall? Does anxiety control the choices you make, ruling your life and holding you hostage? Or perhaps you feel as though you live in a fog, and a dark cloud of gloom is robbing your joy? By seeking help - by looking for a therapist - you have taken the first step towards healing, wholeness, and making peace with yourself. As a registered provisional psychologist, my job is to meet you where you are at and bring my expertise to your situation so that, together, we can come up with solutions that work for you.
Sometimes our pain will manifest as things like addictions or eating disorders. In order to heal, we need to get to the root of the problem. I have extensive experience working with individuals to do just that.. I have worked with individuals of all ages, with disordered eating and eating disorders, as well as adolescents through seniors with addictions. My experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings gives me the knowledge to work with individuals with a range of acuity, difficulties, and co-occurring diagnoses. I have experience working with couples, with children on the autism spectrum (both verbal and non-verbal), and with individuals with trauma, PTSD, and from military backgrounds. I look forward to supporting you on your journey to wellness and to living a full and joyful life!

I am a fellow human being on a journey of learning, growing, and healing. I have been supporting beautiful, messy, and imperfect people through the ups and downs of life for over a decade. My goal is to provide you with an experience of feeling seen, heard, and connected to a mental health professional who can provide a safe non-judgmental space. I feel that we are all whole (even if we feel broken) and it is through this safe therapeutic relationship we can open universes of possibilities like making sense of your experiences together, connecting with yourself and others with self-compassion, and learning research-based techniques. I believe that one of the greatest gifts I can give another human is my attention in an environment of openness, curiosity, and empathy. So, I aim to listen carefully, kindly, and genuinely—with an open heart and an open mind.

I believe change is possible no matter what obstacles are placed on your path. It is within your grasp to build up coping strategies to handle life’s challenges. I endeavor to work with clients to create a bank of resources to manage difficult feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and situations. This enables a sense of security when a withdrawal is required from one’s emotional bank account. A design for coping and living is established in the therapeutic alliance between counsellor and client. Evidenced-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy are introduced and implemented. I value open communication, honesty, and authenticity in my counselling approach when working with people.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University along with a Bachelor of Education. As a former teacher with 18 years of experience, I look forward to working with adults and youth. I enjoy meeting clients who are in a variety of circumstances and situations. I aspire to provide quality care in the domains of disordered eating, relationships, anxiety, and depression in addition to grief and loss. My practicum took place at Cedars Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island where I specialized in the treatment of addictions. I bring genuine empathy and understanding to those struggling with substance use disorders through my own recovery.
I am happy to offer daily, evening, and Saturday services in both French and English.
All my relations,
Allison

Whether you want to transform the core of what troubled you continually, a space to process what’s happened, support to adjust to circumstances, to know yourself better, to cope better, or to learn to thrive – I would love to support you. For the last seven years, I have worked in hospital, community, agency, and school settings in different cultural contexts, providing therapy and assessment for mild to chronic, complex diagnoses and concerns. Kids, Teens, Adults, Families, Groups, etc.
Therapy can support you through your struggle to find relief and well-being. Grief/Loss, Trauma, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Parenting/Family, Child, Relationship issues, Personality concerns, and adjustment are some of the ailments I work with.
I specialize in working with you to transform the deep, unresolved matters that have created trouble for you over a long period, through a humanistic, phenomenological, creative process of self-discovery.
I am a deeply supportive, empathic, compassionate listener who understands that sometimes growth requires being challenged too. I believe in well-being because of shared humanity. I do not profess to have all the answers, but I do believe we can discover the way, together. It is an honour to accompany clients into the core of their woundedness. As we journey to find missing parts, grieve what is lost, mend what is broken, and find simple and clean ways of weaving a vibrant, joyous, and whole self.

I provide individual counselling to adults and couples with a variety of concerns. I am especially passionate about working with individuals dealing with anxiety, developmental trauma, relationship issues, ADHD, immigration and acculturation issues, school success issues, and life transitions.
I define my approach to therapy as adaptive and trauma-informed. This means that I adapt my approach to match each client’s area of concern by using a combination of brain based type of therapy (Brainspotting), with different talk therapy modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Attachment Theory. I particularly enjoy incorporating spirituality or spiritual practices in therapy if/when this is meaningful to my clients.
I am fluent in both English and Spanish. I am available at both the Calgary and Red Deer locations. My schedule includes weekday evenings and daytime appointments, which can be either in person or virtual. I can provide direct billing through Alberta Blue Cross and Greenshield.
I look forward to meeting you and helping on your journey towards healing.
